I have previously read and enjoyed other selections by Susan Wiggs. She is a smooth and very competent writer. Her stories (in this case my favorite genre) are as good as any I’ve read. This particular one, published in 2009, is set during the reign of Henry VIII of England. The subjects are a grief-stricken nobleman of the King’s Court and a Russian Princess who has had everything taken from her and has been in hiding as a gypsy. The usual scenario ensues, which of course I find comforting. Ms. Wiggs throws interesting bits of gypsy lore and history into the mix, which I also enjoyed.
