The Miracle

This novel, written in 1984, is about a collection of people all meeting up in Lourdes, France during the supposed second coming of the Lady of Lourdes, an apparition who appeared to one Bernadette Soubirous 130 years earlier.

I had meant to do some research following this reading but have not done so. In a way, I am really not that interested in whether it is based on any true story. This one is well done and kept me interested until the end. All the characters end up in Lourdes either because they hope to see the Lady, who is supposed to be the Virgin Mary, or they go to follow someone else there. In any case the author keeps the story interesting by creating interaction between the subjects during their stay. What happens in the end I will not say, as you must read it for yourself. It reminded me of two fairly recent movies that I enjoyed immensely. They were "Crash" (Full Screen Edition) and "Babel". I hope you check it out.
