Running the Table: The Legend of Kid Delicious, the Last Great American Pool Hustler. L. Jon Wertheim. Mariner Books. 2008.

Book review by Joel
I picked this book up a while ago and just got around to reading it. I really liked this book. It reminded me a days gone by. Actually, this story takes place in shady pool halls across the country as Danny Basavich and his friend Bob Begey went on road trips to hustle pool for money against some of the top players in the sport.

This book brought back many goofy memories for me. A friend and I spent many nights challenging people to a game of Eight-ball or Nine-ball and drinking free beer. Every once and awhile, someone would come in and clean our clocks and show us we weren’t that good. But after reading this book I see we were small time, indeed. To me, this book was a fascinating look at the world I skirted on the edges of. Some of the scenes happen in my hometown of Louisville, Kentucky.

I recommend this book if you ever had an interest in pool--or if you liked the movie "The Hustler" (Two-Disc Collector's Edition) or “The Color of Money ”--only this book is a true story!

Joel.
