Book Review by Joel
I found this book at the Woods Conservancy book sale, a sale that helps
kids afford musical instruments. It was yellow, and I like yellow, so
I bought it. This is the third in a trilogy about GroVont, Wyoming. I
didn’t know it was a trilogy until after I read it. As a book it
stands alone well enough, and doesn’t require the previous two to
read it. I was pleasantly surprised by that.
This is a story about a man, who inherited some money from his grandfather,
so he has no financial worries. He is a writer of sports action novels
for something to do, and also he feels it is his duty to please women,
young and old, through sex. He is just breaking up with his wife as the
book opens up and uses an exercise bike in the extreme to get over her.
Then, in an effort to keep her father's mind off her mother, his daughter
gives him a list of the five men responsible for getting her pregnant
in a gang rape. This is a comedy! So the book is dealing with actions
and reactions to his interviews with these people who have no idea who
he is.
The book is aptly titled as there are several chapters ending in outrageous
scenes. I liked this book because it was not predictable all the time.
I rarely knew what was coming up. Even when I thought I could predict
the next scene, I was usually surprised. I like that about a book. The
characters were believable throughout. There is a lot of sex and oddball
scenes in the book, but this is an oddball story and it all fits. I recommend
it.
